Cantonese writing is the written form of the Cantonese language. In fact, written Cantonese has existed for many years, and people can find it in magazines, advertisements, comics, newspapers, and literary works. Written Cantonese has long been regarded as a less “formal” form of writing, so students generally have not learned how to write in Cantonese in mainstream schools. In recent years, however, Cantonese creative writing has gradually gained wider recognition, and the number of writers creating in Cantonese has continued to grow, showing that the development of written Cantonese is becoming more mature. However, it will still take time to break the perception that written Cantonese is “not standard” or “not legitimate.”

Through this writing competition, we hope to encourage children and young people to express their creativity, thoughts, and emotions through written Cantonese—to write from the heart and cultivate a new generation of Cantonese writers.
We also hope that this event will help promote Cantonese creative writing and deepen public understanding of written Cantonese. After the submission period, selected outstanding works will be edited, annotated with Jyutping romanization, and compiled into a publication. Our goal is to provide more learning resources for the public to support the study of Cantonese language and written Cantonese.
The objectives of this event are to:
